What's So Important About Ascension Day?

Almost any Christian can tell you why we celebrate Christmas and Easter. What about the ascent, though? Ascension Day has been celebrated by churches that follow the Christian calendar for hundreds of years. It is forty days after Easter. The day of Ascension Day is May 26th. Ascension Day's meaning is obvious from the name. But why is it important?

What's So Important About Ascension Day?

Christ's ascension is a very important part of understanding who he is and what he did. It is also an important part of every believer's daily life. When Christ went back to heaven, it wasn't just because he was done with everything and needed to rest and relax. It's not just about the fact that Christ left. Instead, the ascension is a key part of the Christian faith as a whole. 

Here's why:

1. We Know That Christ's Work On Earth Was A Success

Christ's birth started a new era in the history of the world. His death did, too. So did his rising from the dead. Like these once-in-a-lifetime events, Christ's ascension changed the world in a huge way. Christ was no longer there in person. Now, he was going back to his father by climbing up. He had thought that this would happen. It was nowhere.

By rising to heaven, he taught us an important lesson: he had done everything he had come to do. There were no more tasks for him to finish, no more final documents to file, no more last words to write down, and no more people to heal. Everything was done. He could come back. The fact that he rose to heaven proves that everything he did on earth was a total and total success.

2. We Have The Lord's Supper, Also Called The Eucharist Because We Want Him To Come Back

The Lord's Supper also called the Eucharist, is something that every Christian church does. At this event, we remember that Christ died and rose from the dead. The Bible says, "Every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you tell people about the death of the Lord until he comes." This celebration is a way for us to keep telling people about Christ's ascension until he comes back again. By talking about Christ's death and resurrection, we also talk about how important it was for him to go to heaven.

3. The Holy Spirit Lives Inside Us

Not long after he ascended, there was a huge spiritual change. The depressed and shy disciples, who had been huddled together, burst out in a rush of miraculous healing, bold preaching, and inspired work. What caused this to happen? The Spirit of God. As Christ had promised, he sent them the Holy Spirit, which is God himself. We celebrate Pentecost because Christ's ascension made it possible for the Holy Spirit to come into the world. The coming of the Holy Spirit was not a side effect of Christ's ascension. Instead, it depended on Christ's return from heaven. Now that we have the Spirit in our lives, we are told to go and teach other people about this power.

4. We Get To See Christ As, High Priest

If Christ hadn't ascended, he wouldn't be "interceding for us" (Romans 8:34) " who is at God's right hand and who really does pray for us." When Paul wrote, he put Christ's death, resurrection, and ascension in order and talked about how good it was that he prayed for us. What a blessing it is to know that Christ himself is talking to God on our behalf.

5. We Want Christ To Come Back

When Christ went to heaven, he said he would come back one day. We are living in a time when we are waiting for him to come back. When the angels came to celebrate Christ's ascension, they said, "Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way you saw him go into heaven." This is a promise that gives us comfort every day and encourages us to share the good news.
